This page should provide guideline how to use VeriCoin and Verium on Windows Systems.

VeriCoin Wallet

Installation

  • Is the Wallet a Virus or even a Trojan? My Antivirus detects it positive.
It is a false positive due to hashing assembly which virus software thinks could be part of a botnet mining trojan.

Can look here as well : https://www.virustotal.com/#/url/1a9066dd074000c874b7c75e76e6794b5dc84518ea982f46a76447f2f00084aa/detection

Configuration

Data directory

Go to Start -> Run (or press WinKey+R) and run this:

%APPDATA%\VeriCoin

VeriCoin's data folder will open. For most users, this is the following locations:

C:\Users\YourUserName\Appdata\Roaming\VeriCoin

"AppData" and "Application data" are hidden by default.

You can also store VeriCoin data files in any other drive or folder. Remember to save a copy of the wallet.dat just to be sure

If you have already downloaded the data then you will have to move the data to the new folder. If you want to store them in D:\VeriCoinData then click on "Properties" of a shortcut to bitcoin-qt.exe and add -datadir=D:\VeriCoinData at the end as an example:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\VeriCoin\VeriCoin-qt.exe" -datadir=d:\VeriCoinData

Start VeriCoin, now you will see all the files are created in the new data directory.

Font Scaling issue:

Fontscaleissue.jpg

https://www.pcworld.com/article/2953978/displays/use-windows-10s-individual-display-scaling-to-perfect-your-multi-monitor-setup.html

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3025083/windows-scaling-issues-for-high-dpi-devices

One solution is to turn down the scaling which is located under display settings when right clicked on desktop for windows. For me 50-150% according to how much seperation one wants between lines of font.

A different workaround for the scaling issue on Windows 10, to correct a single app only:Right-click the Verium icon on the desktop, select Properties, select the Compatibility tab, tick the box that says "Override high DPI scaling behavior" and select the entry "System (Enhanced)" from the dropdown list.

High resolution monitors scrunch words where sometimes it is unreadable. Right click on the wallet desktop icon. Select properties. Select compatibility. Select override high DPI setting and change drop down box below that to system. Then select apply.

Usage

Backup

The wallet stores private key information in a file named wallet.dat. It contains:

  • keypairs for each of your addresses
  • transactions done from/to your addresses
  • user preferences
  • default key
  • reserve keys
  • accounts

The wallet.dat file is located in

 $UserDirectory$/AppData/Roaming/VeriCoin

Backup your wallet.dat in a secure place (USB drive, CD, ...).

Troubleshooting

For those experiencing some random stops on 1.7 VRC wallet running W10, try disabling Superfetch. Worked for me.

the problem that macs have, i would assume it is because the HDD is turning off

this is caused by the hard drive going offline. The wallet mounts a database, and when the hard drive hibernates to save power on idle disk I/O it will dismount the database and it cannot write

  1. start menu
  2. control panel
  3. (upper right corner "View By:" should be "Small Icons") View By: Small Icons
  4. Power Options
  5. Choose the plan "High Performance" by selecting the radio button to enable it
  6. Click the "Change Plan Settings" next to the "High Performance" power option
  7. Click "Change Advanced Power Settings"
  8. (At the top of the new window you may see "Change settings that are currently unavailable" you need to click this and enter admin creds)
  9. Scroll to "Hard Disk"
  10. Make sure setting for "Turn off hard disk after" is set to 0

click ok and save changes

Windows poweroptions.png

then close the wallet, and reopen to load the database again and it should start working after a few minutes hopefully, the default setting for "High Performance" power option, is already set "Turn of hard disk after" to 0 u can active Display sleep

it done, not need to change... but i have balanced plan active, not i have put advanced!
